Intent

At Parkgate Infants and Nursery school we believe that anything is possible, and all children are capable of becoming effective communicators, readers and writers. We want our children to develop a lifelong love of reading, writing and discussion. We want our curriculum to be rich in the skills and knowledge needed, recognising and celebrating the diversity of our community, preparing them for their future learning. Our English curriculum is designed to revisit learning to ensure it is embedded into children’s long-term memory.

Language is essential for our children to fully participate in school and beyond. We want our children to speak and listen with confidence so that they are able to articulate their feelings, opinions and ideas. Early reading underpins the development of spoken language and children then strive to develop and enrich their vocabulary making links to phonics, reading and writing application. We want our curriculum to be a reading rich curriculum with high quality texts that will develop their love of reading. We want our children to be inspired to write through the texts they are exposed to as well as their everyday experiences. We want them to be motivated to write in a meaningful way and see themselves as confident, independent writers.
