Music
Intent
Our music curriculum at Parkgate Infants and Nursery intends to inspire our pupils to foster an appreciation and lifelong love of music, and to enable every child to see themselves as a musician.
The curriculum embeds our school drivers and aims to:
- Develops children’s skills in listening, concentration, team working, creativity and self-confidence
- Is accessible to all children
- provides opportunities for all children to be creative and express themselves as confident, effective communicators
- provides every child with the opportunity to learn an instrument - All pupils are encouraged and supported to be confident musical performers who believe that ‘Anything is Possible.’
- gives pupils opportunities to take part in performances and become confident performers
- provides opportunities to listen and respond to a rich and diverse range of music by a range of composers and musicians from different historical periods, cultures, social contexts and musical genres
- builds children’s understanding of musical concepts, features and vocabulary through revisiting and building on these for example children learn to copy simple rhythms which leads to them creating their own rhythms
- provides opportunities for children to compose and create their own music
- gives pupils a firm foundation in music which prepares them for future experiences and opportunities
